FREE TO BE
A positive body image can open up limitless possibilities for young people. Free to Be wants to equip boys and girls with the skills they need to overcome the social pressures that impact how they view themselves and experience how their thoughts shape how they feel about their bodies. It is a research-backed program that focuses on helping youth in grades five to eight tap into their individual and group strengths while developing media literacy awareness so they become better equipped to make sound choices when interacting with messages in different media types. Media literacy promotes critical thinking and enables those who interact with it to thoughtfully interpret different messages regarding physical appearance and thus make empowered decisions about self-care, fuel positive relationships and drive progress toward achieving personal goals. With Free To Be, youth can be encouraged to recognize their innate worth, strive for greater success, prepare for future decisions, and cultivate a strong sense of self-acceptance.
